Welcome to the weekly newsletter! Glad to have you here and I hope you’ll have an amazing week ahead. I wish you all the best; sunshine on your rides, tailwind, great legs and a wonderful coffee stop.
The Best Aerodynamic Gain
I saw a pretty nice video on the Global Triathlon Network channel!
Some take-aways:
- Triatlon suit will be the best investment, watts/$ wise!
- Don't spend your money on high rim carbon wheels (although they look cool)
- Overshoes are not worth it, given the complexity of putting them on in transition
- Storage of food and bottles keeps being a pain-point, even with aero bottles it seems like there are only minimal gains (this can be improved)
It's good to see that the shift in the past 20-ish years in #triatlon towards sleeved suits, texture on the upper arm and shoulders, etc is picked up on. It is the best aero upgrade for the dollar and there are some great alternatives on the market at the moment!
Secondly, I'd like to point out the best aero saving of them all, and it's not your equipment. It's POSITION! Getting your aero position sorted out, training in this position to hold it for an extended period of time, stretching, maybe even yoga, this will have an even bigger influence on your time in the bike leg of a triatlon.
Book coming soon?!
You might have read one of the previous newsletter where I spoke about launching training plans. Together with John Julius Bennett, the crazy man riding the Tour de France for charity, we want to help people reach their goals. We thought long and deep on how to facilitate it, how to give people the tools they need to become better.
First we were thinking to launch the training plan here, on SubStack. But it has inherent problems like version management. If person A would start this week and person B starts on week 3 it becomes very hard to provide content for both person A and B in the same newsletter. This was gonna create a lot of overhead which made it unfeasible.
Secondly, we had to take into account that we wanted the training plan to be as inclusive as possible. Meaning it had to be priced cheap enough so people would be able to pay it easily but we also need to make something for our work. With all the overhead of the first way and all the work we put into writing, SubStack was not the platform for us. Although for this weekly newsletter it is pretty perfect.
So now we have made our decision! The training guide will be a 100% FREE eBook!
Yep, what we were normally gonna charge 10 EUR/month for, will now be absolutely free. The book will touch many different subjects like:
Training zones and how to test them
How to use a heart rate monitor
Which ride do you need to do to reach your goals
What is the optimal heart rate for fat burning
AND a FREE 4 week Training Plan by coach JJ
Design the cover contest!
And that is not all, you can claim your spot on the cover of the book! Send us your favourite cycling picture and you can have the chance to be featured on the cover.
